Fircrest Duplex with Split-Entry Deck & Stairs

Project Details:

When aging and soggy deck boards started showing their wear, this Fircrest duplex needed more than a quick repair—it needed a full deck replacement with safety, symmetry, and curb appeal in mind. We stepped in to rebuild both front entry decks and staircase railings, creating a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming entryway.

Project Highlights:

  • Cedar boards with naturally rot-resistant properties
  • Pressure-treated lumber with properly spaced joists for drainage
  • Cedar top rails and balusters mounted securely to withstand frequent use
  • Lattice skirting + enclosed bin storage = a cleaner, more usable entryway

Before: Failing Framing and Unsafe Access

The original decks were suffering from water damage, loose fasteners, and aging framing that no longer felt secure underfoot. Signs of mildew and rot were visible along the joist ends and undersides, especially where poor drainage and years of rain had taken their toll.

Not only did the decks look tired, they posed real safety concerns, especially at the stairs and railing connections. A full replacement was the best way to ensure safety and a refreshed new look. It also allowed for a cleaner design and a modern wood railing to fit the character of the property.

After: Fresh Cedar Decks & Railings for a Thoughtful Entry Upgrade

We rebuilt both front entry decks using durable, pressure-treated framing and fresh cedar decking boards. The look was completed with a few additional touches, including:

  • New cedar railings to complement the wooden decks
  • A custom cedar gate for added storage
  • And a decorative wood lattice deck skirt to block views under the deck and clean up the landscaping line

The warm cedar tones contrast beautifully against the new slate-blue siding color, and the simple wood-and-stone look keeps things timeless.
